Project Overview

icon blue part time transit lanes 2The Contra Costa Transportation Authority (CCTA) is advancing the development of three shared mobility hubs along the Interstate 680 corridor as part of the INNOVATE 680 program, a suite of projects to address corridor-wide congestion, travel delays, and long-standing operational challenges along I-680.

What is a shared mobility hub?

Shared mobility hubs are locations where various modes of transportation such as biking, walking, transit, carpooling, and ride-hailing come together for more convenient and seamless travel. They may also feature amenities like mobile retail, package delivery, enhanced waiting areas, device charging, and Wi-Fi.

Shared Mobility Hub Locations

In 2023, CCTA completed a feasibility study on potential shared mobility hub locations along the I-680 corridor. Potential sites – at BART stations, park & ride lots, and transit centers – were identified and are shown on the map. The three highlighted sites in Martinez, Walnut Creek, and San Ramon have all received funding and are moving forward with environmental clearance and engineering.

Walnut Creek BART Station SMH

CCTA is developing design concepts to transform the Walnut Creek BART Station into a shared mobility hub. The project is in its first phase, with initial design underway and community input actively being gathered.

Top priorities under consideration for Phase 1 include:

  • Class II bike lane on Riviera Ave from Station Say to Parkside Dr
  • Electric bike charging stations
  • Bike ramps on the stairs to access bike parking
  • Live arrival time information signs
  • Easy-to-read signs and maps

Martinez Amtrak Station SMH

In spring 2025, CCTA gathered feedback from residents, commuters, and stakeholders on proposed design concepts and their top priorities for enhancing the station. Input received during Phase 1 was incorporated into the station design, including the following top priorities:

  • New signage indicating actual bus and train arrival times
  • Improved safety and security measures (e.g., lighting, wider pedestrian areas)
  • Upgraded station amenities (e.g., Wi-Fi, device charging)
  • Improved bus stop waiting areas (e.g., shelters, benches)
  • New or more comfortable walking paths and crosswalks

CCTA is now gathering additional feedback to help shape priorities for future project phases. Join us at upcoming community events to learn more!
